     Mini Stainless Steel Deck Light

The Smartlite Leds Marine Range of LED Lighting includes Marine led cabin lights using energy efficient led bulbs, available in white or warm white.

LED lighting promises to replace the use of all traditional incandescent lights for marine applications. Smartlite's warm white strip leds are very suitable for cove lighting in the lounge and cabins. Lights can be supplied in acrylic housings if required.

While LEDs have been around for years (used in display panels and as indicator lights on electronic equipment), high brightness LEDs are relatively new, and are quickly replacing conventional lighting technology. LED lights give off almost no heat in the generation of light whereas with traditional incandescent lights most of the energy required to produce the light is wasted as heat. Compared to the conventional incandescent light, there are several advantages.  The new bright white LEDs have a bulb life rated at 50,000 hours. Also, LED lights are very energy efficient using 90% less energy than incandescents. These two advantages combined with the fact that LEDs can withstand greater shock and vibration, and possess greater tolerance to heat, cold, and moisture far beyond those tolerated by incandescent lamps, make the LED a far superior source for marine applications. The quality of the light is also another consideration — LEDs appear cooler — described as almost like that of moonlight, and are said to be easier on the eyes especially for reading.

As LED marine lighting is so energy efficient, power usage is not nearly as much of an issue. A comparison of a standard incandescent's power usage to that of the  LED is quite telling. A single incandescent bulb needs about 1 amp to run, while the LED requires only 30 milliamps.
The overall advantages of LED lights make them ideal for use in marine situations, especially where energy consumption is a vital issue. Expect to see the LED light become a standard in the marine industry within the next few years.
